Keep it Simple!
Daily Reading: Leviticus 27, Psalm 117, 2 Corinthians 13, Proverbs 27
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
extol him, all you peoples.
For great is his love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord.
Psalm 117
When I opened up Psalm 117 this morning as part of my daily reading, I had to smile.
“Is that it?”
Two verses. Twenty nine words.
My mind jumped to, “Is this the shortest chapter in the entire Bible?”
It turns out that it is!
While looking this up, I stumbled across another fun fact. Psalm 117 is also the middle chapter in the modern Bible with 594 chapters before and 594 chapters after.
There is such beauty in this symmetry.
One of the things that has struck me in reading through the entire Bible this year, is just how important it is to remember that the Bible is a long, winding, complicated story. When we seek to take individual verses or stories out of context, the results can be dicey.
We need to see God’s full story unfold.
However, today, we are reminded to also keep it simple.
Halfway through the 1,189 chapters of the Bible we see the shortest chapter of all, and one that reminds us what it is all about.
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
extol him, all you peoples.
For great is his love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord.
Frequently in life I need to be reminded to keep things simple.
That doesn’t mean that there is no value in unpacking complicated issues. There certainly is.
That doesn’t mean it will always be easy. It certainly will not be.
However, we all need that reminder from time to time to keep the main thing the main thing.
We serve a God who is faithful, and whose love endures forever.
And that is worthy of all of our praise!
