Credited As Righteousness
Daily Reading: Exodus 26, Psalm 76, Romans 4, Proverbs 17
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Romans 4:18-25
Without weakening his faith…
This can be so difficult when faced with what feels like roadblocks along our faith journey.
Abraham was promised he would be the father of many nations, and yet he had to wait…and wait…and wait for God’s promise to be fully realized. He had to wait so long that it no longer made biological sense that this promise would ever come to fruition.
Sometimes I struggle to wait even a few months.
This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”
If we have faith in Jesus, our eternity is guaranteed. It is credited to us as righteousness.
However, in our day to day walk, how are we doing at trusting God?
When God has placed a calling on our life, and it isn’t going as quickly or smoothly as we would like, how is our faith?
Are we willing to stay strong in our belief in God’s perfect plan, even when it feels like we are getting nowhere?
Will we trust in God’s promises even if it is starting to feel impossible?
When we put our faith in Jesus, it is credited to us as righteousness, and our place in Heaven is secure.
God would also love for us to trust him with our time on earth as well!
So, next time you feel like God has called you to take action, big or small, and it doesn’t seem to be working out, remember Abraham.
He waited till he was almost 100, and it was credited to him as righteousness.
I want to have Abraham level patience and faith!
